Hi! I am currently a social work intern at Koen Counseling and Wellness Center while
completing my Master of Social Work degree at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. As part
of my internship, I am gaining hands-on experience in the counseling field and learning by
shadowing therapists and observing the therapeutic process.
I completed my undergraduate degree at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where I
earned my Bachelor of Social Work with a minor in Psychology. I am now continuing my
education through SIU's Advanced Standing one-year Master of Social Work program.
I am passionate about mental health and helping people feel heard, supported, and understood.
My goal is to continue growing as a future clinical social worker while gaining the knowledge
and experience needed to support individuals through difficult times. I am grateful for the
opportunity to learn from the therapists at Koen Counseling and Wellness Center and to be part
of a team that is dedicated to helping others heal and grow.
I look forward to continuing my education and gaining valuable experience as I work toward
becoming a clinical social worker.

Hi, my name is Maddie! I am a therapist intern looking forward to working with individuals in all
stages of life. I offer a warm welcome and an openness to all individuals and groups. My goal
has been to be a trauma-informed therapist surrounded with others who help water that
passion just by offering that same insight. I am a current Trauma Based Behavioral Health
Fellow.
In my free time, I indulge in self-care practices which prepare me for the days ahead
and enjoy books that open my mind to the experiences people go through and grow through.
My current read is “The Body Keeps the Score”, which offers valuable insight of the effects of
trauma. I am ecstatic to be welcomed into the Koen Counseling team at the Herrin location!
